I always track my daily word count to measure the progress of my novels (one of the few traits I share with Hemingway). When I’m running full steam, I like to write Monday through Friday, usually for two to three hours in the morning after I finish reading the newspaper. Sometimes I devote the session to editing previous text, especially when I need to make adjustments to an earlier draft to make it consistent with new elements that work their way into the story as it evolves. This happens every day in one way or another, from simple things (like a character will change her name) to more complicated reengineering (like a change of location from Vancouver to San Francisco).
